Now that the cold weather is gone and summer is finally here, it’s time for a wardrobe update. The days of wrapping yourself up in loads of layers are over and you’ve got a bit more freedom about what you can wear. But a lot of people make the mistake of thinking that they don’t have to follow any style rules still. Even though you can get away with more in the summer, you should still avoid these mistakes.

Cheap Bikinis

One of the best things about summer is that a lot of the clothes you buy like dresses and tops etc. you can pick up pretty cheap. You don’t need anything that’s a thick material so it doesn’t matter too much. If the stuff isn’t great quality and it only lasts you one summer, it doesn’t matter too much because you didn’t spend much on it. But when it comes to bikinis, that rule doesn’t apply. Most people think you can just grab a cheap bikini from any old place but you’re going to be wearing it a lot over the summer, especially when you’re out in the sun. A cheap one won’t fit very well and can be incredibly unflattering. It’ll also be uncomfortable if it doesn’t offer you enough support. Instead of the budget ones you normally get, buy a good quality one like a Michael Kors bikini. It’ll fit a lot better so it’ll be more comfortable and you’ll get better support. The better quality also means that it’ll last longer.

Animal Prints

Animal prints are a bit of a contentious subject in fashion; some people love them, some people hate them. Whether you’re a big fan or not, you need to be careful with them. Summer seems to be a time when people bring out the animal prints in force but it can end up looking a bit rubbish. If you’re going to use animal prints in your outfit, it’s often much better to use accessories rather than wearing a leopard print dress or something like that. You’re also better off avoiding the brightly coloured animal print clothes because they look too garish. There are some great black and white animal print clothes that are a little more understated so maybe go for those instead.

Too Many Accessories

Accessorising is an important part of your outfit at all times of year, but in summer you’ve got more opportunity to boost your outfit with lots of great bangles, necklaces and big earrings. They can take a good outfit and make it great but you need to make sure you don’t go overboard. The whole point of accessorising is to compliment your outfit, not create an outfit in itself. When you’re putting together an outfit, it’s a lot better to choose a couple of pieces of jewellery that work well with the rest of your clothes and stick with them. If you use too many accessories, your outfit will look too crowded.

When you’re putting together your summer wardrobe, always make sure you avoid these big mistakes.
