Anxiety is something that affects many of us from time to time. Its symptoms can range from being a little worried and nervous before we do something new, to continually worrying about everyday events. If it gets this severe, your anxiety can start to have a negative impact on your life. You can find yourself unable to go about your daily tasks, you might suffer from panic attacks, and depression and fear might completely take over your life.

You’ll have heard many people say things like “just snap out of it!” or “stop worrying.” Which is easy to say, but for someone with severe anxiety, it’s almost impossible. Upon hearing these things, you might find yourself thrown into a circle of worrying about how much you worry. Anxiety can be truly debilitating. But, there are some things that you can do to help. Decisions that you can make which help you say no to anxiety ruining your life.

Get Help

First thing first, you are not alone. Anxiety affects near enough everyone at some point, and many people have severe attacks. Some people use gabapentin for anxiety, others try talking therapies, and some just share their thoughts and feelings with their friends. Ask for help and try different things until you find something that helps keep your anxious thoughts at bay.

Stick to a Routine

A daily routine can be helpful when you are struggling with anxiety. Going about your day in the same way successfully will help you to feel settled and in control. You’ll have less to worry about as you’ll think that less can go wrong.

Exercise

Exercise is excellent for helping with anxiety and other health conditions. Regular exercise helps you to sleep well. When you are less tired, you naturally worry less. Everything looks better after a good night’s sleep after all. Cardio exercise like running and swimming release adrenaline, which contributes to anxiety. The more you can burn off exercising, the less left in your brain.

You should, however, be careful not to do too much. Pushing yourself too hard adds pressure, which can increase anxiety and give you something else to worry about. Set yourself goals, but make sure that they are achievable and realistic.

Relax

One problem that people struggling with anxiety have is that they aren’t very good at relaxing. Having time off leaves the brain free to worry. But, relaxing can help. It can help you to clear your head and take some time off from your own thoughts. Some people find this peace when they are exercising; others like to read as an escape from the real world, some enjoy meditation and others talk to a therapist. Try things out until you find a way to relax that decreases your symptoms and helps you.

Watch Your Diet

Have you ever heard the phrase “you are what you eat”? Well, this is true when it comes to anxiety. Some food and drink will make you feel jumpy and increase the chemicals in your brain that induce fear. Chocolate, alcohol, and caffeine are often triggering. You may find small amounts relax you and help your symptoms, but it’s essential that you find the right balance for you.
