Traveling is such a worthwhile life experience and something that everyone should aim to do if they get the chance. You’ll see new things, meet different people and open up your eyes to things you just wouldn’t have otherwise thought about. But traveling is expensive, and for this reason, it often stays as just a pipe dream for many people. However, there are ways to see the world that cost a lot less than traditional methods. So if you don’t have a huge budget here are some of the things you could try.

Go Backpacking

Backpacking is one of the most affordable ways to travel. When you’re primarily walking and using public transport, you won’t be spending much on physically moving from A to B. You will more than likely be dining at inexpensive cafes and eating supplies from your backpack which saves on food costs. And for sleeping- camping in tents and utilizing hostels and motels means your overnight stays are cheap or even free. You might not have a luxury five-star hotel experience, but instead get to see the world in an entirely different way which is equally rewarding. This modest form of travel allows you to see the world even if you don’t have a ton of savings or money to spend. Your main expense will probably be the flights out to the country you’re going to backpack in. But if you shop around, you should be able to make savings even here.

Go on a Road Trip

A road trip in a campervan or an RV is an inexpensive way to travel. Since this includes your transport and gives you somewhere to sleep, once you’ve paid for this it’s two main expenses covered for your entire trip. Making stops at grocery stores for supplies saves you money on dining out, and most campsites offer hookups for RVs which don’t cost much. These give you water and drainage, and in some cases added extras too such as wifi and electricity. But the good thing about RVs is you can camp just about anywhere, providing its safe and legal.

Work While You Travel

Ideally, you will save up as much cash as possible before you leave; work hard and get your personal finance in order where possible. If for example, you’re paying a lot of interest on loans and cards, you could look into credit card consolidation which will save you money overall. This is money that could be added to your travel fun. However, if you still don’t have enough to fund your trip you could consider working while you’re away. There are a variety of different programs you could look into, so you’re sure to find something that suits you. You don’t get as much free time with this compared with other methods since you have a work commitment. But for many people, this is the only realistic way for them to get out there, so it’s worth checking out.

Stay With Friends or Relatives

Do you have friends or relatives who live elsewhere in the world? Going to stay with them saves on accommodation, and also means you have your own personal tour guide of the area! You could agree to host each other on alternate years, which would allow you both to see a different part of the world without much cost involved.
